The European Union with the aim of encouraging a better understanding of European diversity and recognition of its cultural wealth and once 2018 is the European Year of Cultural Heritage will be made available 15 000 travel passes to explore the countries of the European Union.
From 12 today, June 12, until June 26 at the same time young people can apply for a ticket that will give them the opportunities to discover the European continent between the months of July and October.
With this pass, young people may travel individually or as part of a group (up to five people). Usually participants will travel by train. However, in order to ensure wide access throughout the continent, participants may, in special cases, use alternative modes of transport, such as the bus or ferry, or, in exceptional cases, the airplane.
Thus, young people living on islands or remote areas that are part of the EU will also be able to participate, travelers will have the opportunity to participate in numerous events that are being organized throughout Europe.

- Answer one additional question about how many young people think they will apply for this initiative.
The answers will allow the European Commission to select the candidates. Once selected, participants must begin their journey between July 9 and September 30, 2018. The trip can last up to 30 days and include between 1 and 4 destinations abroad.
Who can apply?
- be 18 years old on July 1, 2018 (ie be born between July 2, 1999 and July 1, 2000 inclusive)
-have the nationality of one of the 28 countries of the European Union
-indicate the citizen's card or passport number on the online application form
- start the journey in one of the 28 EU countries
-to start the trip between July 9 and September 30, 2018

Background
With a budget of € 12 million for 2018, it is intended that the DiscoverEU initiative will give at least 20 000 young people the opportunity to travel through Europe this year. Each EU Member State has been allocated a number of travel passes based on the percentage of its population in relation to the total population of the European Union.
-The first phase of applications will allow 15 000 participants to explore their continent.
- In the second phase, with at least 5 000 tickets, will take place in the autumn of 2018.
DiscoverEU is an EU initiative based on a proposal from the European Parliament, which secured its funding for 2018 through a Preparatory Action. The initiative is focused on 18-year-olds, as this age marks an important milestone in the transition to adulthood.
The European Commission would like to hear the views of young travelers and encourage them to share their experiences and adventures. Once selected, participants will be part of the DiscoverEU community and will become ambassadors for the initiative.
