The European Union has taken a further step towards fair remuneration for all within its institutions. The latest decision of the Bureau of the European Parliament ensures that the trainees of a Member of the European Parliament receive a decent remuneration!
This is another important step forward in putting an end to discriminatory practices in EU and international institutions and ensuring that young people are not treated as cheap labor.
Last summer, the European External Action Service (EEAS) also took the decision to start paying all the trainees in its delegations.
The Bureau of the European Parliament agreed on the fundamental principles which will form the basis for the revision of the internal rules on traineeships in Members' offices. According to these new principles, trainees will be recruited directly by the European Parliament and their working conditions will be comparable to those offered under the Robert Schuman program: all trainees will receive decent pay for their work.
