Articles 58 and 59 of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic enshrine the right to work and the rights of working people, while Article 61 safeguards the right to private initiative, cooperative and self-management.

Article 70 provides extra support for the realization of these rights, recognizing the increased challenges that this phase of life gives you, with a view to your autonomy and emancipation.

Your work should contribute to your personal fulfillment and happiness. In our society, work and wages are the pillars of emancipation and the conquest of the autonomy of young people, as it is the most common way to access an income that allows you to subsist, rent a house, form a family or whatever your other objectives.

You have the right to a job free of exploitation, a decent salary and compatible with your qualifications and protection before internships and volunteerism that mask an effectively needed job. You have the right to have an opportunity in the world of work that allows you to gain experience and to overcome the first great barrier of the professional path. You have the right to start and create your own business, an individual self-employment project and, in a group, to create a non-profit cooperative or association.

Public employment and vocational training policies seek to take your specific needs into account by developing positive action programs so that you can overcome your challenges in accessing your first job or funding to be able to undertake it.
