Violence in Sport - Awareness Action
Today we were involved in raising awareness about violence in sports, the National Republican Guard, with the collaboration of the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth and the Estoril Praia Sports Group organized a different morning for more than 600 students of the Council of Cascais.
"Violence is not an option."
In recent sports seasons, the GNR has recorded several incidents involving sports, including aggression, injury, damage, throwing of objects, illegal use of pyrotechnic articles and the bursting of firecrackers. These actions aim to raise the awareness of the fans, practitioners, sports agents, athletes, parents, children and young people, for the need to adopt behaviors based on respect among all, building a positive environment around sport, whose ultimate goal is reduction of violent actions.
This action was aimed at young people between the ages of 10 and 18 years and had the intervention of the former international referee Duarte Gomes, a player and a professional coach, as well as an element belonging to an Organized Group of Fans.
The youngsters were also entitled to a demonstration of the GNR dogs, about their safety performance, detection of explosive devices on stadium benches, and still looking for illegal items inside suitcases!
The key word of this action was RESPECT and as such the students drew the word on the grass !!
