António Pedroso | Natura Observa

The Javali project operates in different areas of the Sintra Cascais Natural Park such as Quinta do Pisão or the Yellow Base Camp Base. In it, selected volunteers have the opportunity to perform functions such as controlling and removing invasive alien species (eg Acacia or Eucalyptus), controlling soil erosion or collecting household waste, while participating in the preservation of flora native locals and are more knowledgeable about the type of animals and plants they can find in their geographic proximity.

As a volunteer, my experience in Natura Observations began in 2013, mostly linked to the Pilrito project, with passages for other projects, among which the Javali. What captivated me from the outset to belong to this "small" community was the excellent environment created around the relationship between volunteers among themselves, in the interaction with field and grassroots coordinators associated with the awareness that I was fulfilling a civic duty of citizenship in an area that I consider to be of utmost importance for modern societies as is the environment. It is, therefore, an excellent way to meet people and sensitize them to preserve what is everyone's, through sharing experiences, where everyone can teach and learn.
