Carolina Vieira | NATURA OBSERVA volunteer

The Pilrito project operates in the coastal zone, more specifically in the dunes of Cresmina, but also in the Caparide stream in São Pedro do Estoril. The main objective of this project is the control of the removal of invasive species, such as the whiting of the beaches, acacias and reeds. However, we also do dune regeneration, so that we can protect the local flora and collect household waste.

In the summer of 2017, I felt the need to do something different and get out of my comfort zone, so I was advised by a college classmate to join Natura Observ. Although it is not my area of study, Natura Observes teaches us that teamwork as well as good willingness and effort among volunteers are the ideal recipe for overcoming daily goals. In addition, I made new friends and the relationship between coordinator-volunteer has always been impeccable, as coordinators, if necessary impose respect, but also are our friends, which for me is essential.

To conclude, I think that these two years at Natura have made me more aware that much work still needs to be done to protect native species. However, even so, I feel that together with all the volunteers and coordinators of Natura, we have already made a difference.
