The contagious enthusiasm of Natura Observa

It was this morning that we visited the volunteers and the coordinators of the summer volunteer program Natura Observa.

This program is dedicated not only to occupying the leisure time of young people in a non-school period, to fostering the spirit of volunteering and education for sustainable development, providing a service to the community, but also promoting the defense of the county's natural heritage of Cascais.

Natura Observa is composed of six projects, in biweekly regime, with five-hour shifts.

  • The Germina Project supports the propagation work of native plant species developed at the Autologous Plant Genetic Bank (BGVA) and the maintenance of its infrastructures.
  • The Javali project is intended for the execution of a set of forest works in patches of forest and forest belonging to the county of Cascais and inserted in a protected area of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park (PNSC).
  • The Pilrito project implements specific protection and recovery measures in the Cresmina-Guincho dune system.
  • The Falcão project supports the visit to Quinta do Pisão - Nature Park (QdP), enhancing Nature Tourism, supports the work carried out by the team of Nature Rangers and invigorates the activities ludic-pedagogical.
  • The Texugo project supports the actions developed in the Yellow Rock Base Camp (PACB), assisting the work of the "nature rangers".
  • The Raposa project installs signage and monitors the four small routes (PR1, PR2, PR3, PR4) and the large route (GR11) of the PNSC, inserted in a georeferencing system.

Of all the volunteers we met, there was not a single one who was less motivated or less willing to help and contribute to a better natural park.

Between the work, we still had time to capture some moments of great fun!
