"Young people are not the future, they are the now, the today" - Pope Francisco

Yesterday, March 21, the Conde Ferreira School (historic center of Cascais) received the privilege of being the home of the Scholas Occurrentes Foundation. This foundation is already present in 190 countries and in more than 460,000 schools / educational networks.

The signing of the contract for the provision of facilities for the next 10 years took place in Rome, where a municipal entourage was visited, of which Miguel Pinto Luz, deputy mayor of the City Council was part of the project, to whom "having the headquarters of a project with this impact social, religious and human in Cascais, is for us an enormous privilege and the recognition of Cascais as a territory of great transformative potential ".

"It is a pride for Cascais to have this project here in Cascais," said Pedro Mota Soares, president of the Cascais Municipal Assembly.

The work of the Foundation has already begun and, in the near future, the program of action in Portugal should be revealed.

• The headquarters of Scholas in Portugal is in Cascais and is the third in Europe.
• The promise to settle in Cascais was aired in October 2018, at the end of the Citizenship Schools, an initiative of the Scholastic Foundation that took place in the Torre d'Aguilha Seminar from October 17 to 26. It is now a few months later
• This was a response to one of the most emotional issues in the Citizenship Program, for bringing together such a large number of participants, as well as for the commitment of all the social actors involved
• During the "School of Citizenship", about 180 young people from public and private schools of the county presented six projects to answer the two main questions raised by the youth themselves as the most important ones today: the problem of youth suicide and health and the need to update the educational model. A work whose positive result weighed on the municipal decision to create a headquarters of Fundação Escolas Occurrentes in Cascais in a few months.
• The actions developed are aimed at young people of all cultures, origins and religions through art, creativity, self-knowledge
• It was founded in Argentina by then Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, today Pope Francisco
• Always plant an Olive Tree of Peace, a symbol of the dialogue and culture of the meeting, as well as a commitment to signed agreements.
• The Scholas Occurrentes Foundation already has physical headquarters in Argentina (origin), Colombia, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Mozambique and Paraguay.
• Today they have opened offices in Cascais, Panama and Romania
