It was this weekend, September 22, that the Fort of Santo António da Barra, in São João do Estoril, received one of the most important moments of the year: the closing party of the 2018 summer volunteer programs.
At 5:30 p.m., the young people began arriving at the fort and were greeted by the Sea Angels while eating popcorn and drinking Vitamimos fruit cocktails.
Shortly afterwards, the awards ceremony for the volunteers began, attended by Carlos Carreiras, Mayor of Cascais, Catarina Marques Vieira, Commissioner of Cascais European Youth Capital 2018, who addressed young people, welcoming them and congratulating them on their volunteer hours, as well as Nuno Piteira Lopes, Councilor for Sports and Youth.
From 6 summer programs, about 2000 volunteers, more than equipment involved, more than 240,937 volunteer hours dedicated to the community, were chosen the 6 volunteers of the year, those who in each program stood out for the good deeds and the voluntary spirit.
Diogo Prazeres was Volunteer of the Year of Cultura no Bairro, Leonor Rebelo was elected to Cultura Social, Ricardo Janela was elected to Férias na Desportiva, Tetyana Shalapay was the Volunteer of the Year of Locals, Inês Esteves was elected to receive this distinction by Maré Viva and Andreia Silva was the elected volunteer of the year of Natura Observa.
Then the party went on with great excitement and with DJ Miss Lyl to give music until the end of the night.
We hope you have enjoyed this day that was dedicated to volunteering, Cascais, Youth and to the summer that YOU were part of. And do not forget that volunteering is always your girlfriend, as Jaime Ferreira, a Refood Cascais volunteer, said. Volunteering is always a priority in your life, it is always what moves you and that makes you do huge things - like change the world!
