It is already on September 8, this Saturday, that the beach of Carcavelos will receive the Adapted Surfing Day.
The event, which runs from 10 am to 4 pm, will launch the institutional campaign of the European Elections to the general public, as well as to draw attention to the EU's decisions on disabled people, a theme that must be placed on the agenda.
During the action, the site www.thistimeimvoting.eu/ will be launched, where people can register, creating a network of information multipliers on the European elections.
The objective of this event, organized by the Office of the European Parliament and the European Commission Representation in Portugal in collaboration with the SURFaddict - Portuguese Adapted Surfing Association, is to combat abstention and raise public awareness of the importance of this scrutiny and the impact of the EU in their lives. The campaign in Portugal will take place on May 26, 2019.
The SURFaddict - Portuguese Adapted Surfing Association, created in 2012, has already led 1,800 people with some kind of surfing disability, thus promoting surfing for everyone. The association has promoted several initiatives, among them the recent Buondi Surf Sessions, which were attended by the Sufist Garret McNamara and took place between 15 and 30 August.
This initiative aims to transform this sport into a sport for all, eliminating exclusion barriers.
Present will be Commissioner Cascais European Youth Capital 2018, Catarina Marques Vieira, Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Nuno Laurentino, and the President of the National Rehabilitation Institute, Humberto Santos.
The European Parliament has its seat in Strasbourg, France, where it meets in plenary once a month. Most of the time, MEPs representing the citizens of the 28 EU Member States are working in Brussels, Belgium.
In the next parliamentary term, Portugal will have the right to elect 21 MEPs. The UK, due to leave the EU on March 29, 2019 after having opted for brexit in a referendum, will no longer be entitled to have deputies in the euro chamber.
If you want to be present in this innovative initiative, you can not stay at home this Saturday and join the volunteers of Cascais Acessível - Praia para Todos!
